For the Last Time, Marty King, MD Is No Relation to the 'Good Doctor King'...But is a Pretty Good Doctor

Marty King, MD is a prominent Massachusetts surgeon, who has come up against a lifetime of confusion.

What was meant originally as an honor from his folks (big fans of the good Dr Martin Luther King), has become a bit of a curse.  You see, people constantly ask Marty if he bears any relation to the other 'more prominent' good doctor King. And while he does not, he happens to think he's a 'pretty damn good' doctor.

"Yeah, I mean Dr. King made some great impact in this country, I'm not trying to take anything away from him.  But as a physician, it feels like a misnomer to always call him the 'good' doctor.  Hell, last week, I took out a kid's appendix! Is that not 'good'? It could have burst!'

When pushed that any questions like that might be seen as a compliment or an honor, the 'regular' doctor Marty King seemed put off.

"I guess so. I mean, he was a great speech writer. That whole thing in Washington.  Compare that to my speech on a panel last week in Charlotte - I totally froze!'

But, as an African American, surely there is a special place in his heart for the good Dr King?

He deadpanned "I don't see colors."
