“Black Bachelor” Cancelled After Second Week; All Contestants Sent Home

Surprisingly, ABC cancelled its newest iteration in the Bachelor franchise.  Earlier this year, the network announced it would launch the first ‘Bachelor’ with an all African American cast.  Black men and women are famously underrepresented in the program, and ABC was hell-bent on making reparations for that.

However, the move seemed to have backfired when the Bachelor, as seems to be tradition, sent all remaining minority contestants home in the second week.  Though he reassured each that they were terrific and he really hoped they’d find love, each relationship wasn’t progressing as fast as some of the other ones.  A confusing theory since it was Week 2.  Asked to defend his decisions, he pointed out that he had given ‘the first impression rose to an African American woman’, and that he ‘just doesn’t see the world like that’.

Shaping up to be the most dramatic season in Black Bachelor history, in Week 1, he only eliminated anyone who hinted they had a child at home.  In Week 1 he also used the classic reasoning that it just wouldn’t be fair to keep those women away from their children for one day longer if he didn’t see a future with them.

ABC executives had high hopes for the season as they claimed all women were under the age of 22, ready to get married, and when shown a picture of the Bachelor before taping, they all claimed they could ‘really see a life together with him.’
